When I was a kid, I liked to think of patterns on worn walls as maps of unknown, mysterious regions.
Here is one such "map".
Ψηφις, πλ. Ψηφιδαι (Psephis, pl. Psephidae): 1. Pebble 2. Small piece of colored stone, used in creating mosaic.
A collection of psephidae from Greece and elsewhere
Beautiful. Simply beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWell, I still do!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteThis image DOES resemble a map - I like the way you see it.
ReplyDeleteNice. And you've reminded me that almost none of the walls in Japan (inside or out) are painted. Or at least it seems that way.
ReplyDeleteGlenn, I 'm happy you liked it, thank you!
ReplyDeleteSophia, me too I allow myself a child's daydreaming from time to time, hence this picture. :-)
Kala, in many cases I could also see faces, plants, animals, mysterious creatures... but that will be another theme to post!
Rick, that was interesting - about the walls in Japan. I wonder if that is relevant to the aesthetics of rock gardens and the like, or is it due to some practical reason?
